Ralph Miniatures
I was just gifted this set of Ralph Lauren miniatures featuring five of their classic best sellers. The tiny size offers a few benefits- easy to slip into your handbag, useful to 'test drive' a new perfume if you are unsure of a scent and also great if you like to vary your perfumes. It makes a good gift too, as who doesn't love miniatures in their lovely packaging, and is also a safe option as the variation of scents guarantee that the receiver will like at least one, if not a couple of the different perfumes.
I have used Ralph and Romance previously, at the ages of 17 and 23 respectively, and the scents evoke pleasant memories :) Of the five, loving Blue right now.

Sunglasses Collection
I love sunglasses and can't resist picking up new pairs most of the time. An inexpensive fix for this habit is InMark in Bangalore, which regularly stocks trendy designs. While I don't have a particular design preference, I generally like a larger frame. This is the refined collection, after having given away a bunch to friends which I wasn't using. My current favorite is the tortoise shell Mango pair.
Top: Yves Saint Laurent, First row: InMark, Second row: Ralph Lauren and Mango, Third Row: Armani and Esprit, Bottom two wooden frames: InMark (Bangalore)

Sale Shopping
Although I went to practically every store in Bangalore to check out the sales, I refrained from buying so many gorgeous but essentially useless things for my wardrobe and tried to stick to the basics. So what I ended up with were two basic tees in black and white from Promod (not pictured), a blue-grey skull printed stole from Zara and a wool gilet from InMark, perfect for the weather here which never gets too cold.
I also bought a lipstick from Clinique-while I'm not a huge makeup person, going bare faced is not acceptable in all situations so the lipstick was an effort at pulling my makeup act together. I like the shade as it looks slightly sheer when worn.
My strangest purchase were the ten (!) nail polishes from Faces. I don't know how I ended up with all these shades, considering my entire life I have used only a black or burgundy shade and I despise looking after my nails. However, I now meticulously apply a new color every second day and can't help but feel pleased every time I look down and catch sight of my colorful digits :) Don't know how long it will last though..

Filmed 15 years apart in different countries and languages, Clueless, made in Hollywood and Aisha, made in India, are based on Jane Austen's classic novel, Emma. Both films are best know for their styling as they are heavily focused on fashion. Clueless set many trends and exemplified trendy preppy mid-90's fashion like coordinated plaid suits, knee socks and hair accessories. Aisha showcased some amazing fashion with the lead actresses in Dior, Chanel, Ferregamo,Westwood and much more. Spot the similarities in styling.

Basic Black in Hollywood: Kelly Rutherford
I looked up Kelly Rutherford online, looking for images of her outfits on Gossip Girl as I love the jewellery her character 'Lily Van Der Woodsen' is styled with.
While doing so, I came across pictures of the actress in her own outfits and discovered she has a great classic look.Very simple basics accessorized with mostly Hermes bags and cuffs, along with the occasional statement necklace.

New Perfume: Ralph Lauren Big Pony 3
I'm always on the lookout for the perfect perfume, which works for me and which I could see myself always using, but have not found it till date. Trying to find the perfect one, I have been through dozens over the years. Unfortunately, I don't prefer any particular notes in the composition, which would have helped me narrow down my search, so I've used fresh, floral, fruity, musky and woody scents in the past.
Anyway I recently came across the Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection and I instantly liked No. 3, a summery perfume with pear and mimosa as key notes. It is fresh and delicious but quite a 'young' scent- somewhat reminiscent of Ralph by Ralph Lauren, which I used to use in my teens.
There was a promo on where you get a tote free on purchase of a 100ml bottle (available in the colors of the various perfumes). I preferred the blue (No. 1) tote to the yellow one no.3 comes with, so I took this instead!

Modern Day Romantics?
I love the British Romantic writers and poets, in particular the trio of Lord Byron, John Keats and P.B. Shelley. Brilliant on their own, the three friends also collaborated with and inspired one another in their work. The Romantics were akin to some of our modern day musicians in terms of creativity, decadent lifestyles, adulation along with persecution received from the press and public for their outspoken or radical views/ behavior.
I can't help but draw a parallel between my favorite Romantic trio and two of my favorite rappers, Kanye West and Jay Z. The similarities in lifestyle, creativity, artistic expression and collaboration are all there. I think all true artists share so many similarities irrespective of external differences, or whichever medium they choose to express their art in.
This is just my personal opinion and yes, not related to fashion! To come back to the main theme of the blog, below are pics of the amazing Kanye West and Jay Z, whose style, apart from their music, I find so inspirational. How great are their looks pictured below? :) Loving the tailored jackets, sharp suits and killer accessories.
